Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust

Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust

On the evening of 3 October 2013, the Firm hosted a fundraising event for EMCT, a charity established by Dame Ellen MacArthur specialising in taking young persons suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses on sailing trips. Our Richard Butcher is a longstanding Trustee. The first presentation was given by Gemma who, having contracted cancer, was introduced to sailing by the Trust in 2004. Having graduated, she is now working for a sailing magazine. Stephen explained a parent's perspective and how his family went through an agonising 18 months before their daughter was eventually diagnosed as suffering from Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Like Gemma, Daisy now works as a volunteer for the Trust and is in her final year at university. Both have fully recovered. Dame Ellen gave an explanation as to the purpose of the Trust and was followed by Frank Fletcher who set out the aims for the Trust moving forward, the intention to be to expand from taking sailing 6% of children recovering from cancer to 14% over the next 3 years and which is solely dependent upon funding.
